STERLING VA: (Rocktown Now) – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for portions of central, northern, northwest, and western Virginia, remaining in effect from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST Friday. Forecasters warn that snowfall between 1 and 3 inches is expected, with localized totals of up to 4 inches possible in the higher elevations of Highland and Augusta Counties.
Temperatures will remain in the 20s, allowing snow to accumulate on all untreated surfaces. As a result, slippery road conditions are likely, particularly during the Friday morning commute. Meteorologists note that a light snow will overspread the advisory area overnight, with slightly higher amounts possible in narrow banding features. As the snow tapers off Friday afternoon, a light freezing drizzle may develop, adding to hazardous travel conditions.
Drivers are urged to use caution and allow extra time for travel.
