William “Elmer” Michael, Sr., 87, of Keezletown, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Sentara RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg.

Mr. Michael was born October 28, 1936, in Keezletown and was the son of the late Howard L. and Anna Virginia Billheimer Michael. On May 9, 1959, he married Belva Jean Sheesley who preceded him in death on June 18, 2003.

Elmer worked in construction throughout his career. He was well rounded at all aspects of building and home renovation. Elmer graduated from Montevideo High School and was a member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church and member of the Keezletown Ruritan Club for 46 years. He enjoyed traveling, camping, hiking and being outside. He was always happy when his friends and family would stop to visit. His favorite saying “The old way is the best way.”

Surviving are two sons, W. Elmer Michael, Jr. (Ellen Jett) of Singers Glen, and Stanley Michael (Sandra Yamileth Urquia Martinez) of Criders; two daughters, Virginia Hulse (Francis) of Broadway, and Wanda Hulse (William “JR”) of Singers Glen; two sisters, Mary Nankiville and Janet Clements (David), all of Keezletown; a brother, Ellis Michael of Tampa, Florida; special friend, Violet Calhoun of Mt. Crawford; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great great-grandson, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, with the Rev. Susan Reaves officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
