HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) – A small section of Country Club Road in Harrisonburg will soon have a new weight restriction for vehicles that use the roadway.

The area, a stretch of pavement that crosses a culvert between Linda Lane and the Interstate 81 overpass near the Chaney Concrete Plant entrance, will be restricted to a 33-ton weight limit following an inspection that determined the limit was necessary due to the current condition of the culvert. The area is still safe for general passenger vehicles and can continue to be used by
emergency response vehicles as needed. The city conducts similar bridge inspections across the community throughout the year, and this was a regularly scheduled inspection.

Harrisonburg Public Works will pursue funds in the near future to upgrade the culvert, which would eliminate the need for a weight restriction.

Vehicles over the restricted weight can utilize East Market Street instead.
