WAYNESBORO, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Commonwealth’s Attorney has declared a Waynesboro police officer was justified in a shooting that killed a man after an hour long standoff in April.

A report published by Commonwealth Attorney James Hingeley on Friday says that on April 10th, Kevin David Taylor the Second was shot and killed by a Waynesboro police officer who had pursued Taylor from Waynesboro into Albemarle County on Interstate 64.

Taylor was a suspect in a shots fired call in Waynesboro which ensued a police chase, that ended at about mile marker 102. According to the report, for 60 minutes, Taylor repeatedly asked police to shoot and kill him. The standoff ended when police fired a foam baton at Taylor, he dove into his car, and the police officer fired seven rounds at Taylor.

Hingeley said after conducting a full review, the law enforcement’s use of deadly force against Taylor was justified.
