WAYNESBORO, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Waynesboro Family YMCA is celebrating a new community partnership with The Hershey Company in Stuarts Draft that will expand access to childcare for local families.
Through the collaboration, Hershey has contributed $40,000 to fund The Hershey Company Childcare Scholarships, an investment aimed at making high-quality childcare more affordable and accessible to families in the Waynesboro area.
Each year, the Waynesboro Family YMCA serves approximately 150 children through its preschool program, after-school school-age care and summer camp offerings.
“These programs provide children with a safe, nurturing and enriching environment where they can learn, grow and thrive,” said Rebecca Patton, childcare director for the Waynesboro Family YMCA.
YMCA leaders said Hershey’s philanthropic support aligns closely with the organization’s mission to strengthen the community by supporting families and children.
“Our mission is to strengthen our community by supporting families and children,” said Anne Hudlow, executive director of the Waynesboro Family YMCA. “We are incredibly thankful to The Hershey Company for recognizing the importance of accessible childcare and for standing beside us in this work. Their generosity ensures that more children can experience the care, support and opportunities they deserve.”
Officials said the scholarship funding will help remove financial barriers for working families who rely on childcare programs.
“Hershey is proud to support the Waynesboro Family YMCA in expanding access to quality childcare,” said Mike Sever, plant manager for The Hershey Company’s Stuarts Draft facility. “Strong families build strong communities, and we’re honored to help create brighter futures for children and parents in this region.”
YMCA representatives said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to community well-being and building a stronger, healthier future for children and families across the region.
