ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) – Waterline work has shut down another street today in Rockingham County.
According to an online statement, 6th street in the town of Grottoes will be closed all day, from Birch Street to Cherry Avenue due to waterline replacement efforts.
Town Manager Kyle O’Brien says a 6-inch line that serves as the main artery for the town’s water system is being swapped out for a new 12-inch line.
“Before we put part of that line in service, it was creating some pressure problems,” said O’Brien. “We had some water main breaks, etc. We got those issues resolved about a week and a half ago. We’re about 65% to 70% complete on this project. But issues we had in the past are behind us.”
O’Brien says the $550,000 project to upgrade lines and enhance the distribution system will take several years to complete and is paid for by funds provided by the American Rescue Plan Act.
