ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — A Virginia State Police trooper suffered non-life-threatening injuries after a crash Wednesday morning on Interstate 81 in Rockingham County.

According to VSP spokesperson Matt Demlein, at approximately 5:47am at around mile marker 250 just north of Harrisonburg, the trooper was checking on two tractor trailers on the right shoulder of I-81 when her vehicle was struck by a third tractor trailer traveling northbound.

The trooper was taken to the hospital to be checked out and her K9 was taken to a veterinarian for examination.

The driver of the tractor trailer was charged with reckless driving.

Officials say the crash remains under investigation.
