AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Virginia State Police are asking for the public’s help in providing information about a motorcycle and motorcyclist involved in a pursuit on Interstate 81 on Christmas Day in Augusta County.

Spokesperson Matt Demlein says that at approximately 2:35 p.m. on Dec. 25, 2025, a Virginia State Police trooper attempted to stop a motorcyclist at the 225-mile marker on Interstate 81 north.  The reason for the stop was reckless driving.  The motorcyclist refused to stop, and a pursuit was initiated.

Demlein adds that the pursuit continued on Interstate 81 until the motorcycle was able to successfully elude the trooper.  It is believed that the motorcyclist exited Interstate 81 at Exit 240, went south on Route 11, stopped for fuel, and then drove onto Interstate 81 southbound.  On Interstate 81 southbound the motorcyclist passed a second Virginia State Police trooper while driving recklessly and then exited at Exit 220.

The motorcyclist was wearing a black full-face helmet, a red and black hooded sweatshirt, grey sweatpants, and tennis shoes, according to Demlein.

The motorcycle did not have a tag displayed and had multi-colored LED strip lights located above the rear wheel. The vehicle is bluish or black in color.
