AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) – Virginia State Police is investigating a crash involving a tanker truck carrying ammonia that occurred at approximately 10:00 AM Monday, at the 212-mile marker on Interstate 81 southbound in Augusta County.
The tanker truck was heading southbound on Interstate 81 when the driver had a medical emergency.  The tanker truck sideswiped another vehicle heading southbound on Interstate 81, then crossed into and crashed in the median.  The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
The driver of the tanker truck was taken to an area hospital.
Hazmat crews were on scene to handle the ammonia for several hours.
The Virginia Department of Transportation had a detour for both northbound and southbound Interstate 81 in place.
