BLACKSBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) — Virginia Tech has hired its new women’s basketball coach as they announced on Wednesday that Megan Duffy will take over the program.
Duffy comes to Blacksburg after five seasons at Marquette. She led the Golden Eagles to a 110-46 record, and they finished 23-8 this past season and lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Duffy also led Marquette to the 2023 NCAA Tournament, and she went 64-30 in Big East play during her time in Milwaukee.
“She is a proven winner and committed to continuing our women’s basketball program’s momentum,” athletic director Whit Babcock said in a statement. “I am confident Hokie Nation will embrace and support Megan as we enter the next chapter of Virginia Tech women’s basketball.”
Duffy, who signed a six-year contract with Virginia Tech, takes over for Kenny Brooks. The former JMU coach left Tech after eight seasons to become the head coach at Kentucky.
Duffy also coach at Miami (Ohio) for two season and went 44-20.
“The ACC is the best conference in the country with deep talent and outstanding leaders,” Duffy said. “The work with the team begins today as we look toward building the next great Hokie team.”
