HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — Virginia State Police (VSP) arrested an Elkton woman after a pursuit resulted in a crash in the City of Harrisonburg on Thursday, October 9, 2025.
According to a release, at approximately 1:20 p.m. Thursday, October 9, 2025, a Hyundai sedan illegally used the crossover at the 262.7-mile marker on Interstate 81 in Rockingham County to travel southbound. A Virginia State Police vehicle pulled out of the crossover behind the Hyundai and attempted a traffic stop.
The driver allegedly refused to yield, and a pursuit was initiated southbound on I-81. Additional state police units responded as the suspect exited the interstate at the 245-mile marker and continued into the City of Harrisonburg.
While traveling through the city, the suspect allegedly disregarded multiple red lights and turned onto Mason Street. As the vehicle approached East Market Street at approximately 10 mph, the suspect reportedly attempted to pass a patrol vehicle on the left side of the roadway, striking the vehicle and running off the road. The Hyundai overturned before coming to a stop.
The driver was safely removed from the vehicle and taken into custody without further incident. The suspect, identified as Kyla Williams, 23, was transported to Sentara RMH for evaluation.
The investigation revealed that Williams was allegedly under the influence of a narcotic.
After being evaluated and medically cleared Thursday night at Sentara RMH, Williams was transported to the Rockingham-Harrisonburg Regional Jail, where she was held without bond.
She was charged with the following alleged offenses:
- Elude/Disregard Police (Felony)
- Elude/Disregard Police (Felony)
- DWI/Drugs, 1st Offense
- Operate/Permit Operation of Uninsured Vehicle
- Fail to Obey Traffic Signal
- Fail to Obey Traffic Signal
- Fail to Obey Traffic Signal
- Improper U-Turn
- Fail to Stop/Yield Entering Highway
- Fail to Obey Highway Sign
No troopers were injured during the incident. One Virginia State Police vehicle sustained minor damage.
Virginia State Police was assisted at the scene by the Harrisonburg Police Department, Harrisonburg Fire Department, and Harrisonburg Rescue Squad.
The incident remains under investigation.
