ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Virginia State Police is investigating a single vehicle crash that occurred last night, January 15, 2026, on Stone Spring Road in Rockingham County.
According to a release, at approximately 7:13 p.m., a Harrisonburg Police officer observed a 2011 Mercedes sedan travelling at 80-miles-per-hour eastbound on Stone Spring Road. The Harrisonburg Police officer attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle did not stop and increased its speed. The officer reportedly did not initiate a pursuit but did call in the speeding vehicle.
About a mile east, the Mercedes went off of the right side of Stone Spring Road, struck several signs, and then a pole for a traffic signal. The Mercedes then caught fire.
The Harrisonburg Police officer, who had continued eastbound at reduced speed, saw the crash scene and stopped. The officer, as well as a second arriving officer, then attempted to remove the driver from the burning vehicle before additional resources arrived. The two officers also made attempts to extinguish the fire.
The driver of the Mercedes, 21-year-old Yuliza Bacilo-Corona of Rockingham County, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to an area hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
