ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — A plane went down in Albemarle County over the weekend.

Virginia State Police have confirmed that a small plane crash in a wooded area off Monacan Drive East, not far from the Charlottesville Albemarle Airport, claimed one life Saturday afternoon.

The flight originated from Rockingham, North Carolina, and ended in the crash that authorities say happened around 12:51pm.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have been notified and are expected to assist with the investigation.
