AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Virginia State Police continue to investigate a fatal house fire last week in Augusta County.

Spokesman Matt Demlein reports that the incident occurred Thursday, January 9 shortly before midnight in the 1400 block of Guthrie Road north of Stuarts Draft.

Demlein stated that there were three people inside the home, two of which made it out safely.

The third was found dead, and the remains were taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Demlein added that while the investigation is ongoing, the fire is not considered to be suspicious at this time.
