BROADWAY, VA (Rocktown Now) – Virginia State Police have determined that no money was missing or misused in Broadway, following an investigation into the town.

Sergeant Brent Coffey said in a release that after meeting with the Commonwealth’s Attorney, it was determined that no criminal violations occurred and the investigation is now closed.

Last month, an investigation was brought forward after many rumors were circulating about missing funds, upwards of $200,000 dollars. The Rockingham County Commonwealth’s Attorney Office then requested the investigation.

Those rumors escalated as many of the town’s staff left following the retirement of longtime Town Manager Kyle O’Brien. Interim Town Manager Bob Holton resigned shortly after filling O’Brien’s position, and Deputy Town Manager Cari Orebaugh announced her departure alongside Holton, but stayed on through the first week of June.

Leslie Fulk also resigned from his seat on Broadway Town Council last month.

In an interview with Rocktown Now, Broadway Mayor Dave Jordan said he was pleased with the outcome, and that it was a pleasure working with the investigators.

“I provided them with the information that they requested, the findings they came out with were no surprise to myself or the other Council members of Broadway, we fully expected them to find what they did,” Jordan said. “[There was] no misuse of funds, no missing funds, and we’re delighted with their outcome.”

Jordan added that, with the investigation closed, council can focus on their primary task of moving the Town of Broadway forward.

“We hope that this will help put the rumors that were floating around to bed, and that we can move forward with town business,” Jordan said.
