RICHMOND, VA (Rocktown Now) — The first full legislative session of Virginia’s General Assembly has been postponed until Monday, January 13 due to an ongoing, massive water outage in Richmond.
The state capitol is on its third of a “Boil Water Advisory” as efforts to restore Richmond’s water treatment continue.
Harrisonburg and Rockingham County Senator Mark Obenshain said on social media he’s never had a General Assembly session begin like this.
“Due to an ongoing massive water outage (3 days and counting) in the City of Richmond, the Senate and the House will gavel in at Noon today (January 8) to take up procedural resolutions then recess until Monday, when we’ll take up the people’s business.
I am especially concerned for the city residents and businesses that continue to be impacted and I certainly hope that they will soon have their water restored. Kudos to the new Mayor for his tireless efforts to resolve this inherited crisis.”
