ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – Valley Interfaith Action is urging the Rockingham County Board of Supervisors to support a pilot project for a county-wide door-to-door public transit program.

Over 100 people rallied outside of the county administration offices Wednesday afternoon to persuade the board after their proposal was rejected earlier this year.

The board instead pledged their support for an Augusta County-based group that is working to start a door-to-door transit program that would serve the Bridgewater-Dayton area.

The organization raised $200,000 that Bridgewater Church of the Brethren Pastor Jennifer Scarr presented to the board.

“We have $200,000 in hand, and now all we are asking for is the same respect you afforded to a group from Augusta County. Sign our letter, send it along, and let the state decide,” Scarr said.

Rockingham county officials could not accept the check and supervisors will vote on the latest proposal during a meeting next month.
