AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) – A Shenandoah Valley farm woman was honored on Monday at the annual convention of the American Farm Bureau Federation, our nation’s largest farm organization.

Morgan Slaven of Augusta County was named runner-up in the Excellence in Agriculture competition that was part of the annual Farm Bureau Federation convention in San Antonio, Texas. Thousands of delegates from all across the nation watched as Slaven, who farms near the City of Staunton, accepted the award. Slaven said it was an exciting moment.

“You’re standing up on stage with the cream of the crop from across the country,” said Slaven. “There were 24 other competitors running for this really prestigious title, and to stand up there and be recognized among the top of the top was amazing. It was an incredibly humbling experience.”

Prizes awarded to Slaven include a $25,000 credit from the Case IH farm equipment company.

Slaven raises sheep at her farm in northern Augusta County. She is active in the Virginia Farm Bureau Young Farmers program.
