CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (Rocktown Now) — University of Virginia Police Department is investigating a self-inflicted gunshot wound that happened on campus this morning.

According to authorities, shortly after 4:30am, University Police responded to reports of shots fired on the southern side of the Rotunda.

When officers arrived, they found a deceased male who appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Law enforcement secured the weapon and initiated the current, ongoing investigation.

The subject’s identity has not been released at this time.

The public is asked to continue to avoid the area until the investigation concludes, and the scene is clear.
