HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – The United Way of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County announced Friday that projects for its annual Day of Action, are now open for volunteer sign-ups.

The event has brought volunteers together to make a difference in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County for more 30 years. A press release from United Way said the annual Day of Action represents more than just a day of service; it celebrates unity and collective impact.

“I look forward to this event every year,” Jo Benjamin, Director of Community Impact at United Way of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, said in the release. “It brings together people from all different parts of the community to unite for one purpose: serving their neighbors. I’m always amazed at how many people are willing to pitch in and get their hands dirty for a day knowing the good they’ll do.”

This year, the United Way identified 25 projects in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County with volunteer slots remaining to be filled. Whether signing up solo or with colleagues, volunteers are encouraged to RSVP for the after party for food, drinks, games, prizes and camaraderie.

Day of Action provides an opportunity for volunteerism and also allows companies to foster team spirit outside of the workplace and to connect with local organizations. Volunteers can choose from morning, afternoon, or full-day shifts, making it convenient for everyone to participate and contribute, the release said.

In 2023, the 30th Day of Action saw 258 volunteers completing 17 projects in the community.
