STAUNTON, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office has two men in custody in connection with the shooting that occurred on February 18, 2026, on Maple Leaf Drive in the Staunton area of Augusta County.

Officials say Agereon Dondell Price, 51, of Staunton, Virginia, turned himself in to deputies and was arrested on Friday, February 20, 2026, at approximately 5:23 p.m. Price was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant from the Fluvanna County Circuit Court for violation of §18.2-456(A)(6), related to an underlying conviction for distribution of cocaine.

Anthony Shamon Washington, 46, of Waynesboro, Virginia, turned himself in to deputies and was arrested on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Washington has been charged with the following offenses:

  • §18.2-308.2 – Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (Augusta County)
  • §18.2-308.4 – Possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled substance (Waynesboro)
  • §18.2-248 – Possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance with intent to distribute, second offense (Waynesboro)
  • §18.2-308.2 – Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (Waynesboro)

Both individuals are currently being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail.

Augusta County Sheriff Donald Smith says “this case is the result of swift investigative work and strong cooperation within our region. We remain committed to holding those involved accountable and ensuring the safety of our community. I would like to express my appreciation to Waynesboro and Staunton Police Departments as well as the U.S. Marshal’s Office for their assistance.”

Sheriff Smith adds that the investigation remains active and additional information will be released as it becomes available. Additional charges are forthcoming.
