HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – Freshman pitchers Madalyn Johnson and Taylor Johnson threw the first combined no-hitter since 2017 as James Madison softball downed George Mason in five-inning run-rule fashion by a score of 9-0 in midweek action on Tuesday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park.
Cali Legzdin tied a single-game school record with her four stolen bases during the contest, sitting her parallel with Jasmine Butler, who set the program record against MTSU on March 9, 2013. The freshman finished the day going 2-for-2 with two singles, two runs scored, and driving in one.
In four innings, JMU (19-21, 5-10 SBC) came up with eight steals on the base paths, the most in a shortened game in program history.
Jasmine Hall led the charge against George Mason (17-27, 9-8 A-10), as she produced her fourth multi-RBI game of the year, going 2-for-3 with a double and three runs driven in. Her RBI double in the bottom of the first inning marked the 150th hit of her Dukes career.
Lexi Rogers put the exclamation mark on the ballgame for James Madison in the fourth, as she launched her second pinch-hit home run of the season over the left-center field fence to push the Dukes into run-rule territory.
Madalyn Johnson notched her second collegiate win in the circle as she pitched four no-hit innings complete with eight strikeouts, which ranks second in her career in a single game, and the most in a victory for the freshman. Taylor Johnson capped off the five-inning no-hitter, pitching a perfect fifth inning while fanning one.
