AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — A driver and passenger were injured in a high-speed chase that ended in a crash last week.
The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office says they attempted to stop a stolen vehicle on Friday, December 5, in the 400 block of Hermitage Road.
A 2007 Chrysler 300 had been reported stolen from Buena Vista. When the deputy activated their emergency equipment to initiate the traffic stop, the driver immediately accelerated and fled at a high rate of speed.

Both the driver and a passenger were transported to Augusta Health for medical treatment by Preston Yancey Fire & Rescue and Augusta County Fire & Rescue. The driver was later transferred to the University of Virginia Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
The driver was identified as 27-year-old Cody Joseph Elwood Shores of Staunton and was taken into custody at the hospital by the University of Virginia Police Department.
