STAUNTON, VA (Virginia Department of Transportation) – The following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton District consists of 11 counties in the Shenandoah Valley and Alleghany Highlands.

Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. When traveling through a work zone, use extreme caution and be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

INTERSTATE 81  

Mile marker 206 to 208, northbound – Overnight right lane closures for installation of traffic sensors, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights.

Route 254 (Parkersburg Turnpike) – Eastbound right shoulder closure between Route 876 (Swoope Road) and Route 42 (Buffalo Gap Highway) for utility work, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Dec. 2.

Route 256 (Weyers Cave Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 772 (Sulfur Pump Road) and Route 865 (Rockfish Road) for bridge maintenance, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Friday.

Mile marker 242 to 248, northbound and southbound – Alternating lane closures, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., and shoulder closures 24/7. Traffic restrictions are for Route 33 bridge and interchange projectwith completion expected in fall 2026.
