BROADWAY, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Town of Broadway is increasing their water, sewer, and trash rates.
Water and sewer will be increasing by 5% and trash is rising by 8 dollars and 20 cents. All members of the council voted yes at their meeting this week, except for Leslie Fulk.
The council said they raised the water rates due to inflation and the rising cost of treatment chemicals. They also said they need 47 thousand dollars to paint a water tank and 50 thousand dollars to purchase a piece of machinery that catches debris in the water treatment plant. The council also wants to replace water and sewer pipes.
The higher rates will go into effect in July.
At the next town council meeting on June 4, the council will revisit the proposed 3-cent real estate tax increase, 5-cent cigarette tax increase, and the Fiscal Year 2025 budget. If these are passed, they will also go into effect in July.
