LURAY VA: (ROCKTOWN NOW) – The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down in the Luray area Friday evening.

A National Weather Service survey team visited the area Saturday and determined an EF-0 tornado stayed on the ground from 6:06 to 6:08 p.m. near Kimball Road, east of Route 340.

An EF-0 is the weakest category of tornado, with maximum wind speeds of 65 to 85 mph.  The tornado was part of a line of severe storms that moved through the Page Valley Friday evening.

Damage included a small shed and fence being destroyed, large tree being uprooted and many branches snapped off trees.

NWS estimates the path of the storm was 50 yards and stayed on the ground for 1.1 miles.
