ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA – (ROCKTOWN NOW) – A cold front moving into the Shenandoah Valley was responsible for a line of thunderstorms, that downed trees and power lines in parts of Rockingham and Augusta County as well as the city of Harrisonburg. A lighting strike lead to a tree fire near the Coors plant in Elkton and split a tree in half in the town of Elkton. Trees were down across several roads, including Spaders Church Road and Dices Spring Road in Weyers Cave. Power lines were down in parts of Eastern Rockingham County, on main street in Harrisonburg and parts of Augusta County as well. The storm also brought some much needed rainfall to parts of the area with a quarter to three quarters of an inch reported by automated rain gauges.
Power Outages
Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative reported over 4700 customers without power in Augusta and Rockingham County, with over 1700 in Augusta County and over 500 in Rockingham. Over 1900 customers lost power in Page county according to SVEC. Dominion Power reported around 500 customers without power.
