HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – Crews from Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative have returned to the area after a two-week stint in areas of North Carolina and Southwest Virginia, which were ravaged from Hurricane Helene.

President and CEO Greg Rogers told host Jim Britt on Early Mornings Tuesday that utility crews usually make tough trips, but this particular trip had them experiencing all facets of the job.

“There was no basic infrastructure for meals and stuff like that,” Rogers explained. “The roads were taken out and then just the devastation they saw of the communities that were down there. It was a tough one.”

Rogers said he talked to the returning crew. They all said while it was a long, tough trip, it was a memorable one where they could do the kind of valuable work that was needed in the two weeks since flooding hit much of the region.
