HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – Harrisonburg Police arrested a suspect in the shooting that occurred near downtown Harrisonburg earlier this week.
HPD Lieutenant Chris Monohan reported Alexander Ramos Perez, 21, of Rockingham, was taken into custody without incident Thursday night when the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office stopped his 2017 black Audi sedan. He is charged with three felonies, including malicious shooting.
The shooting occurred on North Main Street this past Sunday, March 31, around 2 am, injuring a 19-year-old female Rockingham County resident. The victim was treated at Sentara RMH Medical Center and later released.
Detectives with HPD’s Major Crimes Unit investigated the shooting, aided by eyewitness statements and surveillance footage in the area.
HPD’s Major Crimes United executed two search warrants after Perez was detained, searching his vehicle and residence on Hilton Lane in Rockingham County.
Perez is being held in the Harrisonburg/Rockingham Regional Jail after his bond hearing scheduled for Friday afternoon was continued to April 24.
