PAGE COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — A suspect is in custody after Page County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Luray Middle School Tuesday morning to a reported breaking and entering.

PCSO says at approximately 7:39am, police arrived to Luray Middle School where they observed a broken window on the lower level of the building. A thorough search of the school was conducted, and no individuals were located inside.

An investigation was initiated, which included a review of the school’s security camera footage, and the suspect was identified as Shawn Hugh Sheriff of Shenandoah. Deputies contacted the individual at his residence, where he was taken into custody without incident.

Sheriff was charged with the following:

• VA Code 18.2-91 – Breaking and Entering with intent to commit a felony (Destruction of Property) – Felony

• VA Code 18.2-138 – Destruction of Property valued over $1,000 – Felony

• VA Code 18.2-212 – Maliciously Activating a Fire Alarm – Misdemeanor

The Page County Sheriff’s Office says they are currently working with the Page County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office to determine and pursue the appropriate charges. They note that based on all information obtained during the investigation, this appears to be an isolated incident, and there are no known ongoing threats to the safety of the public or schools.
