HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – The American Heart Association’s school-based programs, Kids Heart Challenge and American Heart Challenge, awarded $2,500 dollars to Stone Spring Elementary in Harrisonburg to improve the school’s playground recreation space.

School officials stated that these funds will significantly enhance recess space and provide students with more opportunities and areas to play and be physically active.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, less than 24 percent of children and adolescents aged 6-17 get the recommended amount of physical activity each day.
