AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — A Staunton man is in custody after a burglary incident in Augusta County.
According to a release from Augusta County Sheriff Donald Smith, deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call Saturday night reporting an active breaking and entering at a home on Farm View Lane in the Churchville area.
Authorities say the homeowner confronted the 19-year-old suspect, identified as Gianni Rocco Colavita, before he exited the home, unsuccessfully attempted to steal a vehicle outside, and fled on foot.
The homeowner pursued and ultimately detained Colavita in an adjacent field until deputies arrived on scene and arrested him on charges including Burglary at Night to Commit a Felony, Petit Larceny, and Possession Of Scheduled I or II Drugs.
Colavita was transported to Middle River Regional Jail and is currently held without bond.
