STAUNTON, VA (Rocktown Now) — Firefighters in Staunton spent a few last night hours battle a fire at a processing facility Tuesday night.

Officials say at 9:34 PM, firefighters responded to a confirmed structure fire at 600 Hays Avenue which is a Pilot DEF processing facility.

Engine 2 arrived to find smoke showing from a warehouse. Crews quickly located the fire in the attic. The bulk of the fire was knocked down by 10:17 PM, with crews remaining on scene until around 1:00 AM for salvage and overhaul.

Officials say there was one employee on site, who was able to exit the building safely. One firefighter was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The fire was determined to be accidental and is believed to have started near an exhaust pipe from a steam generator.
