STAUNTON, VA (Rocktown Now) — The City of Staunton is developing a Flood Resiliency Plan to help better prepare for, respond to, and recover from flooding.
The city’s Environmental Programs Administrator Willow Hughes says the public has a chance to share their experiences and concerns with flooding at a community listening session on Monday, July 14th, from 5:30 to 7:00 at the Staunton Public Library.
“We’ll be having a meeting to listen to anyone who wants to talk about flooding in the city or their experiences with that. We’ll have a little information on the plan but it’s mainly just to hear from the public,” Hughes said.
Hughes added this stems from an issue back in 2020 when the downtown area was hit with back-to-back storms that led to flooding problems.
She says the nine-month planning process will create a roadmap for addressing flood risks citywide.
