NEW MARKET, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – Virginia State Police released more information about this week’s fatal crash in Shenandoah County.
Sergeant Brent Coffey told Rocktown Now that the accident happened just before noon on Tuesday at the intersection of Route 11 and Cedar Lane in New Market.
A 2000 GMC Sierra was traveling south on Route 11 when it rear-ended a southbound 2015 International dump truck, which was stopped to make a left turn.
The driver of the GMC, Joseph F. Rhodes, 65, of Toms Brook, Va., died at the scene of the crash. The driver of the International, a 55-year-old male from Mount Jackson, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Shenandoah Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash, Coffey said. The crash remains under investigation.
