NELSON COUNTY, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) –Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash last night in Nelson County.

Spokesperson Matt Demlein explained that the crash happened around 6:40 p.m. on Afton Mountain Road.

“A 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling east on Afton Mountain Road near Williams Creek Lane when it ran off the right side of the road,” Demlein said. “The vehicle continued into a ditch where it struck a culvert and overturned.”

The driver of the Tahoe, Phillip Pugh, 65, of Afton, died at the scene. Demlein said he was not wearing a seatbelt.
