RICHMOND, VA (Rocktown Now) — Governor Abigail Spanberger has announced that eight Virginia localities will receive nearly 1.6 million dollars in Site Remediation Grants from the Virginia Brownfields Restoration and Economic Redevelopment Assistance Fund.
The awards allow local governments to restore and redevelop brownfield sites, which are properties with the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant or contaminant.
Waynesboro will receive 250-thousand dollars for remediation of lead-based paint and asbestos-containing material at the former General Wayne Hotel to support re-development into 38 workforce housing units.
New Market is getting 99-thousand dollars for remediation of asbestos-containing material in the town community center, allowing the center to be redeveloped into a mixed-use project.
