HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – A Friendly City athletic facility is getting statewide recognition for its aesthetic appeal.

This week, the Virginia Sports Field Management Association announced that the football field at Smithland Athletic Complex was named the Parks and Recreation Field of the Year for 2023.

Field turf manager Todd Campbell said that his entire staff just joined the team within the last year, making the achievement even more impressive.

He added that the turf at Smithland is made of a unique blend of grass varieties that required the new management team to “learn on the fly.”
