The Shenandoah Valley Art Center during the month of July, in the Cabell/Arehart Invitational Gallery and newly designated Members’ Building, invites you to be a part of the most anticipated event of the year – the Annual Anniversary Members’ Judged Show. Awards were presented, including a special opportunity for Best in Show winning artist, Cheryl Richards, to be featured in a solo exhibition in the Members Gallery in 2027. This year’s show was judged by award winning artist, Karen Rosasco. We are celebrating our 40th anniversary and guests are invited to vote for their favorite piece of artwork. The public’s award-winning artist will be announced at the end of the exhibit! The Shenandoah Valley Art Center’s featured exhibit at the 416 Gallery is for two artists with bold acrylic works. The opening reception for William May and Jeje Moore will be held Friday, July 10, 5:00p.m. – 7:00p.m. where you are invited to meet and talk to the artists. All guests are welcome! 416 W. Shenandoah Valley Art Center’s Monthly Print Demo: the Golding Pearl Press with Lana Lambert will demonstrate the platen press in action. Come see this treadle driven machine in action and learn how letterpress work was done in years past and how it differs from the cylinder driven presses of the same nature. Free and open to the public! Come join us and learn about the wonderful world of printmaking. Shenandoah Valley Art Center presents Summer Art Classes for Kids: Animal Art Exploration with Jeje Moore. In this class, we will use a variety of art materials to create 2D and 3D art inspired by some of our favorite animals. Students will learn how to draw animals by breaking them down into basic shapes, shading or constructing for 3D form, and explore techniques for making patterns and textures like fur or feathers. Jeje Moore is an artist and educator from Crozet, VA. She has been an elementary teacher of art and science for almost 30 years. She loves being outdoors and her artwork is inspired by all her travels and outdoor experiences. Finding beautiful objects from nature like shells, rocks, and feathers is an especially inspiring activity for her. If she’s not outdoors, she’s indoors playing with all of her art supplies and experimenting with all the ways she can use them. Shenandoah Valley Art Center presents Kids Clay Camp with Lynn Hilton Conyers. This clay experience covers a mixture of hand-built and wheel thrown projects. Good for all skill levels! Kids will work with wet clay on Monday and Tuesday. There is no class on Wednesday while kilns are fired, and Thursday freshly fired pieces will be glazed. Friday, pieces will be finished, packed, and ready to take home. All supplies included. This is a semi-structured class. It is best for kids who can work somewhat independently, after thorough instruction. Register early as spaces are limited! Shenandoah Valley Art Center presents Loom Beading Bracelet Camp 2 with Cherie Witt. Learn the craft of loom beading. Learn all the steps of designing and bead weaving. In this class students will learn how to design a bracelet on paper or a computer. They will learn to warp the loom, weave with beads, and master different ending techniques. It includes all the necessary supplies for making 3 or more bracelets. Hey bluegrass jammers come join the Waynesboro Music Bluegrass Jam at Shenandoah Valley Art Center, Saturday, July 25 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Jam sessions will be held in the 416 West Main St. Gallery which will give expanded space allowing for break-off jams, if merited. We will stick with the format of passing tunes in a circle and passing the hat to support the musicians, which is, of course, optional. The art center is also a terrific gallery space so check out the exhibits. There will be seating or standing room for participants. Come pick, listen, or hang out with a friend! All are welcome! In downtown Waynesboro, the Shenandoah Valley Art Center is located in two buildings: 126 S. Wayne Avenue and 416 W. Main Street. We are open to anyone viewing the exhibits, shopping in the gift shop, and exploring the artists’ studios. The buildings are accessible to studio artists, working potters, The Tom Brown Printing Studio, weekly painting groups and scheduled classes. Artists/members have monthly or bimonthly exhibition opportunities! Remember also that the center houses a wonderful library of art books! It is a place to look, learn, and talk about…ART!
