SHENANDOAH COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office has shared they have received several reports of scammers phoning local residents and disguising their identity by displaying the SCSO phone number.

With this “caller ID spoofing” callers are claiming to be a deputy sheriff and telling victims they have missed jury duty. The callers are also demanding $6,500 to resolve the matter. Another caller claimed to have a warrant in their possession related to the missed jury duty.

The Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office says they will never call to demand payment over the phone.

If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately and report it to the sheriff’s office at 540-459-6100.
