SHENANDOAH COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office is once again warning of scammers targeting residents by demanding payment of overdue bills through gift cards or PayPal.

Often posing as police, I-R-S agents, utility companies, or even family members in distress, scammers reach out over the phone, by email, or through social media and ask victims to send gift card codes from companies like Sephora, Apple, and Amazon, or make direct online transfers.

Authorities emphasize that no legitimate business, law enforcement agency, or government entity will ever ask for payment via those methods.

Report suspicious activity to the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office at (540) 459-6100.
