SHENANDOAH COUNTY, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – The Shenandoah County School Board held its first meeting since the NAACP filed a lawsuit earlier this week over returning the names of Stonewall Jackson High School and Ashby-Lee Elementary School.
Not much was said about it during the open portion of the meeting except for Gloria Corlineo, who said that the board is fully committed to fighting the lawsuit to the extent of the law.
Toward the end of the Thursday night meeting, Brandi Rutz requested a forensic investigation into the $133,000 that was used for the initial name change in 2020.
“I’d like to see where the money came from,” Rutz said. “I mean, these are special-ed kids, they’re our most delicate. I think there’s probably some conversations with the DOE [Department of Education] that need to happen, but yes, I would like to see a forensic audit could be considered for that time frame.”
That time frame for the audit would be from July 2020 to July 2022.
