SHENANDOAH COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Shenandoah County Public School Board is joining other districts and the law firm Timberlake Smith, in a litigation against different social media companies.
The companies include Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and YouTube which are alleged to have used targeted algorithms to collect data and use tactics to increase usage.
Superintendent Dr. Melody Shepard says this has greatly impacted students’ mental health which leads behavioral problems in schools.
Dr. Shepard added that this will not cost the school board any money, unless money is recovered in the litigation.
