STAUNTON, VA (Rocktown Now) — The historic Sears Hill Bridge in Staunton is open once again.

The bridge closed in August of 2024 for repairs and renovations. City officials say the repairs were made using black locust lumber, a historically appropriate, rot-resistant material.

The Sears Hill Bridge has been around since 1906 when the train station it is located next to was built. The City of Staunton was offered the bridge in 2010 as a public right-of-way. However, the city deemed it as structurally unsound and closed it to the public. The bridge was then rebuilt and opened again in April of 2013.
