SHENANDOAH COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office is reporting an alleged kidnapping took place at the Shenandoah County Fair this week.

Officials says that on Wednesday, August 27, a parent of a 13-year-old boy called the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office and reported a suspicious incident/person that occurred around 10pm at the fairgrounds.

A Sheriff’s Office investigator interviewed the parent and the juvenile on Friday, August 29. During the interview, the information below was obtained:

“The juvenile reported he was attempting to go to his parent’s vehicle when he was approached by an unknown white female, possibly in her 40’s, near the main ticket gate. She requested the juvenile assist her with carrying a crate to her vehicle and led him to a black pick-up truck near the Masonry gate. The make and model of the truck are unknown, however, it is reported to have had a Tonneau cover over the truck bed and a vertical sliding rear cab window with a manual silver handle. Upon approaching the truck, the juvenile noticed two people inside. Two males proceeded to jump out of the cab and the woman grabbed the juvenile.

The males were described as follows: A tall white male, possibly 6ft, with hair buzzed very short, appearing almost bald, no facial hair, and a shorter Hispanic male, bald, with neatly groomed facial hair. The juvenile was able to free himself from the woman and was chased by the males until he reached another entrance gate. The juvenile was shouting and located his friends nearby before being escorted back to his parents.”

The sheriff’s office says they encourage families to be vigilant and report all suspicious activity to law enforcement.

Officials ask that if anyone has additional information or was in the area during this time period, to contact SCSO Investigator Lanning at 540-459-6100.

SCSO says they are only aware of this incident. Additional staff and resources have been deployed to the Shenandoah County Fair this week.

This is an ongoing investigation.
