VERONA, VA (Rocktown Now) – The Virginia Department of Transportation will begin improvements around October 1 at the intersection of Route 901 (Mill Place Parkway) and Route 612 (Laurel Hill Road) in the Verona area of Augusta County. The project is designed to improve safety, traffic flow and commuter access.
Key improvements include:
- Dual left-turn lanes to reduce delays for westbound traffic turning from Route 612 onto Route 901.
- Additional southbound lane on Route 901, which will transition back into the existing three-lane undivided section.
- Access management upgrades and improved signage for commercial entrances.
- Expanded park and ride lot, increasing capacity from 37 spaces to approximately 52 spaces and adding an electric vehicle charging station.
During construction, drivers should expect lane closures, turn lane closures and flagger traffic control as needed. Traffic restrictions will generally be on weekdays during daylight hours. All work is weather permitting.
VDOT in July 2025 awarded a $2.3 million construction contract to B&S Contracting Inc. of Staunton, Va. Final completion of the project is scheduled for August 1, 2026.
