Charlottesville, VA (cbssports.com): With the official announcement expected Saturday by the University of Virginia, VCU Head Coach Ryan Odom will be named the new Head Coach of the Virginia Cavaliers Men’s Basketball team.

First reported by CBS Sports Matt Nolander, the decision came on the heels of the first-round exit of his VCU Rams yesterday evening at the hands of BYU 80-71.

After the interim tenure of former Cavalier assistant Coach Ron Sanchez, Odom will now permanently succeed the legendary Tony Bennett, whom he once upset in the 2018 NCAA Tournament as then the-Head Coach of 16-seeded UMBC.

Odom will take over a Virginia team that finished 8-12 in the ACC, 15-17 overall, and crashed out of the ACC tournament after one game in the 2024-25 season.
