ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va – The Massanutten Technical Center’s Executive Board will meet on Monday to discuss their next steps after the Rockingham County School Board’s recent shakeup of their legal counsel.
The school board dropped law firm BotkinRose – their legal counsel of almost 40 years – and hired Litten & Sipe as their new counsel in a closed-door meeting with no vote last week.
MTC’s Executive Board includes members of both the Rockingham County and Harrisonburg City School boards. However, social media posts from members of both boards have made it unclear if the county’s school board members will attend the meeting.
The Rockingham County School Board’s library materials committee will also meet later in the week on Wednesday, April 3, in a closed session.
The committee will meet with the board’s newly hired legal counsel regarding the development and review of the board’s Supplemental Materials Policy. The policy has evoked backlash from community members over a proposed ban of more than 50 books in the county’s school libraries.
Board members had planned to vote on the policy at their meeting earlier this week but delayed it to their next meeting on April 8.
