HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – The Rockingham-Harrisonburg SPCA is offering fee-waived adoptions throughout July for all adult dogs and cats in their care.
However, the shelter is still seeing an unprecedented increase in dog intake this summer, so the organization will host an off-site adoption and foster recruitment event this Saturday.
Executive Director Huck Nawaz explained that the ‘Mutt-urity Matters’ event this Saturday afternoon will be at Pale Fire Brewing on South Liberty Street from noon to 2 p.m.
“We experienced an increase of 25% – that’s roughly 200 dogs coming to our care this year compared to last year,” Nawaz said. “Our maturity matters campaign aims to raise awareness of the plight of adult dogs in need of foster and adoptive homes right here in our backyard.
The SPCA will also be at Pet Smart from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday for a kitten adoption. Those fees have been reduced from $100 to $50.
