HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – The Rockingham-Harrisonburg Regional Jail will be back in commission this week after suddenly closing last month.

The jail will re-open Thursday, June 6, at 8 a.m. According to an email from Rockingham County Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson, the plumbing repairs that suddenly closed the jail last month have been completed.

Hutcheson wrote that the repairs were more extensive than expected, but the situation could have been worse.

“Nevertheless, we were able to get them completed in less than a month, which is not bad considering the situation,” Hutcheson wrote.

Inmates at the jail were temporarily moved to Rappahannock-Shenandoah-Warren Regional Jail and Middle River Regional Jail during the repairs. Hutcheson thanked the two facilities along with the Department of Corrections, plumbing contractors, and Sheriff’s Office staff for their help and patience over the past month.
